Despite continuing political turmoil and a turbulent 2011, Egypt’s information technology market has been expanding rapidly, growing at a double-digit rate. Business Monitor International reports that the country’s success in boosting its IT market was a direct result of the recovery following the January uprising in the country and the increase in citizens purchasing personal computers for their use. Independent analysts have also likened the telecom industry’s success to the direct result of the important factor online communications had during the final days of the uprising and the massive influx of users who wanted to “be connected.” Several well-established companies stand to gain from this growth, and are profiled below.
