According to the police commissioner of Borno state, suicide bombers killed 17 people and injured 21 in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Wednesday.

Four areas in the city which is the capital of Borno were struck by the blasts.

Maiduguri is the epicentre of the eight-year fight against Boko Haram, and has been largely free of violence for the past two years.
