The Federal University of Technology Minna has disclosed that the arrested recruiter for the Islamic State of Iran and Syria (ISIS) is not a member of the institution.
This comes t the light in the wake of reports that the suspect, Abdulsalam Yunusa, is currently a student of the institution. According to a statement provided to the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Wednesday, February 10, the University claims Yunusa was admitted into the institution in 2010/2012 academic session but he had since fled the school. He reportedly last registered for any academic activity in the institution in the 2014/ 2015 session but left the school after the first semester over unknown reasons. The University statement further stated that records showed the alleged ISIS recruiter as being in 300 level as he had not registered for the current session. Abdulsalam Yunusa made the headlines for all the wrong reasons on Tuesday, February 9 when he was apprehended by the State Security Service in connection with spearheading operational activities concerning ISIS in Nigeria. This is a welcome development and a giant step in the current battle against terrorism in the nation. It remains to be seen how his case pans out.
