IT giant Microsoft will today hold its Play Fair Day in Lagos to further intensify awareness around the dangers of purchasing and deploying pirated products, and discourse its militating effects on the individual, businesses and economy with focus on proffering workable solutions.

The roundtable event which will hold at the Nigeria corporate office from 9 am is themed: “Play it Safe”.

Prior to the entrance of the Microsoft in Nigeria Africa’s second-largest economy, there had been a wide spread use of unlicensed Windows software in the country both by private businesses and individuals.

Piracy poses a huge problem to enterprise in Nigeria. The intellectual theft has also significantly reduced revenues generated by Nigeria’s thriving literary and entertainment industries.

Microsoft Nigeria, through Play it Safe plans to x-ray existing Anti-Piracy laws in Nigeria and their effectiveness, industry collaboration in reducing piracy as well as the need for stronger laws to protect the new crop of developers and their inventions.

Microsoft Corp., founded by world’s second richest man Bill Gates, is a global leader in IT and software and business solutions.
