Nigerian commercial airline, Aero contractors resumes full flight operations today, after an eighteen-day strike as a result of protests by workers over unfavourable working conditions.

As at yesterday, the airline had already started selling tickets to customers while skeletal services including test and positioning flights were in force.

The airline resumed operations after an intervention from the Senate Committee on Aviation on Thursday in Abuja, who advised it to call back its workers and resume operations. In moving the operations of the airline forward, the Senate committee recommended that the management  invite the union leaders for negotiations on its plans to re-organise the airline.

The embattled airline, which is also the second largest commercial airline in Nigeria, has been facing challenges in operating profitably after the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) converted its debt to a 60 percent share-holding. This development led to the outsourcing of some departments in the airline to other firms.

However, on March 13, 2013, about 600 workers were dismissed due to labour disagreements between the management and the staffs who were protesting on the unfavourable working condition at the airline.

The sacked workers have been called back as part of the management-union re-negotiating process.
