On Wednesday, 11th January 2016, the federal government granted Nigerian citizenship to 335 foreigners who had earlier applied. This is regarded as a backlog of applications, as 2013 was the last time such exercise was done.

This was however disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
