The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, is currently in Nigeria.Although Zuckerberg’s visit to the country was not announced prior to his arrival, the surprise visit comes on the heels of several Facebook-linked developments in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Some hours ago, Zuckerberg was at the Co Creations Hub (CcHub), Nigeria’s first open living laboratory in Yaba, Lagos state. He is reportedly in Nigeria to listen, learn, and take ideas on how Facebook can be better in supporting tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa. This seems to be another practical demonstration of his support for Nigeria’s tech entrepreneurs and his interest in seeing technology on the continent grow.

In June this year, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative founded by Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, supported Andela, a Nigerian start-up company in Lagos, with a $24 million Series B funding. Before now, Zuckerberg acknowledged the innovation of the developers at Jobberman, a website for job seekers in Nigeria, saying “there’s a lot of innovation across Africa right now, and Nigeria, in particular, is home to a lot of talented developers.”
