In a response to a call by unversity students’ complaints that they had not been vaccinated for rabies, the registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Dr. Markus Avong, heede to the call. On Thursday VCN embarked on a distribution of a human anti-rabies vaccines to nine federal universities in the country. These vaccines were distributed to  various Dean of Faculties, Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in the accredited tertiary institutions including the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), as part of efforts to eradicate rabies in the country.
This came as good news to the students of the education institutes. The institutes that received the vaccines are – University of Abuja, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.Others are – University of Maiduguri, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
