A 21-year old black Tanzanian woman was pulled from her car. She was allegedly stripped, molested and paraded naked. It all happened in the modern city of Bangalore; all because some other black person in another car had fatally run down a woman. A shameless and cowardly police constable looked on but didn’t intervene.
This is hardly an isolated incident and no one is surprised at the Karnataka Congress’s most insensitive handling of this latest racist attack; and nor does BJP have any better record in that department. From Bangalore’s social media orgy of mass hate against Northeastern Indians in 2012 to Goans putting up “Say No to Nigerians, Say NO to Drugs” signs to a Goan Minister calling Nigerians a “cancer” to the 2013 beating of black Africans at a Metro station in New Delhi to the former AAP Minister Somnath Bharti leading a vigilante attack on Nigerian women calling them “prostitutes and drug pushers” to the January 2014 death of the Northeastern Indian Nido Tania in Delhi at the hands of racists, the racist violence continues. But much of official and unofficial India is in denial about it.
