Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has received the 2013 Emerging Markets Central Bank of the Year Award for Sub-Saharan Africa, as a result of his efforts towards reducing inflation and stabilizing the country’s economy.

Presented at the prestigious Willard InterContinental, Washington DC, Emerging Markets Magazine, the award marks would mark the 3rd time Mallam Sanusi would be acknowledged a recipient, an achievement the organisers reckoned was a rare feat.

Director of Emerging Markets Magazines – organisers of the award – John Orchard, noted that the Nigerian CBN governor displayed tremendous strides at driving down the nation’s inflation rate to a single digit of 8 percent, as well as successfully maintaining microeconomic stability across the country’s financial industry.

Governor Sanusi said he owed his achievement to the entire workforce of the Central bank, noting that their efforts are the direct result of the success currently experienced in the 2nd largest economy on the continent.

Sanusi praised the finance ministers he had worked with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Dr. Mansur Muhtar, both of whom were present at the ceremony, for the collaboration and support offered him for the successful implementation of policies that have prompted the much needed stability in the sector.

The event was attended by heads of central banks as well as finance ministers from Africa, Europe, South America, Asia, and the Middle East regions.
