Earlier today, Islamic extremists stormed a luxury hotel in Mali and have taken 170 people hostage in an apparent terror attack. It was believed that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, was among the 170 hostages, in the hotel at the time of the raid.
However, we can now confirm that Dangote was not present in the hotel, but is safe in Lagos, Nigeria.
Al Jazeera West Africa correspondent, Yvonne Ndege, confirmed on her Twitter handle to confirm that Dangote is indeed safe.
I just spoke directly to @AlikoDangote he’s not in #MaliAttacks he’s safe in his office in Lagos.
