Collation of the results from Nigeria’s national elections are halfway through. The Independent National Electoral Commission, has announced the results 20 states, splitting them equally between the front-running candidates – General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress and President Goodluck Jonathan.

However, General Buhari, the leading opposition candidate, is ahead on the number of votes counted. He is in the lead with 491,705 votes ahead of President Jonathan.

Collation is ongoing after been extended till Tuesday.

The elections, which took off on Saturday 28th March after a six weeks delay, was keenly observed by the international community. The process was extended till Sunday, 29th March, after delays and disruptions were experienced in a number of polling units. The glitches were as a result of challenges using the newly-implemented biometric card reader technology and delays of voting materials. There were spats of violence reported in the North, which were perpetuated by Boko Haram.
