On Tuesday, August 30 2016, a bomb planted in a car, exploded outside a popular hotel close to the presidential palace in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, leaving five people dead.

“We have confirmed five people killed including security guards,” a Somalian police officer, Mohammed Abdulkadir said, adding that 10 others were wounded.

A witness, Elmi Ahmed, who saw what happened said that he saw a large blast and a thick fume of smoke rise high into the air.

The Al-Qaeda-aligned terrorist group has promptly claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they targeted the SYL hotel basically because it is close to the presidential palace, and also home to apostates and unbelievers.

On the other hand, this same hotel popularly known for hosting government officials, business people, visiting diplomats and delegations has recorded several attacks, as recent as February 2016 and January 2015.
