According to the research, French football club Paris Saint-Germain are currently the world’s best-paid sports team. The Parisians earn average first-team wages of £5.3 million a year with Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the club’s biggest earner.
In second place lies Spanish giants Real Madrid with average yearly wages of £5.04 million with wages of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Iker Casillas contributing to the hefty wage bill. English side Manchester City make up the top three with an annual wage bill of £5.02 million with Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure being some of the biggest earners
The report also covers other sports asides football with two baseball teams- Los Angeles Dodgers and the famous New York Yankees- placing 5th and 9th respectively with annual wage bills of £4.6 million and £4.2 million.
Other clubs in the top ten according to their placing are Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal.
In total, six teams from the Premier League sides make the 30 team list with Liverpool in 14th and Tottenham in 30th place. The list features a total of eleven football teams, seven baseball teams and twelve basketball teams. In Europe, Spain, Germany, Italy, England and France are represented by eleven football teams while 19 teams from the United States make up the rest of the list. Taking only team sports into account, only football, basketball and baseball feature on the list with other high earning sports like boxing and golf left out. The highest paid football team is Paris Saint Germain, the highest paid baseball team is Los Angeles Dodgers and the highest paid basketball team is the Brooklyn Nets.
