200 Shiites who are members of Zakzaky’s movement in Nigeria have been charged with illegal possession of firearms. This came about after a protest by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) that turned violent. During the protest about 300 members of the  (IMN) were left dead. The violent clash was between the protesting IMN members and Nigerian soldiers in the northern city of Zaria between December 12-14, 2015.The Nigerian Army said that the attack on their part was in self-defense. They allege that there was an assassination attempt on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, by IMN members, who were allegedly acting on the orders of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, who was arrested during the clashes and is to date still in custody.
Some 191 members of the IMN have been thus charged by Nigerian prosecutors at a court hearing on Wednesday with the illegal possession of firearms and causing a public disturbance. It is reported that the IMN members formed a roadblock and threw dangerous objects at an army convoy. All the suspects pleaded not guilty, but are being held at a central prison in Kaduna, for security reasons. $ members of the group have however been released on bail as they are under 18.
