Press releaseThe Nigerian military has rescued 43 abducted persons and recovered 500 cows from fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in Mafa.

The military operation for the mission occurred Sunday morning after eight suspected Boko Haram terrorists abducted some cattle rearers and livestock at gunpoint at Dalakalari general area, Mafa Local Government Area.

Some well-meaning people informed the military who swung into action and pursued the terrorists.

The terrorists, sensing danger, ran and abandoned the livestock just before Panamri village and ran away. The troops were able to rescue 43 persons and 500 cows taken by the terrorists.

The victims and the recovered cows have been handed over to the local authorities.

A round of applause for the Nigerian military everyone.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, dear Nigerian troops, when do we see headlines such as:

  • Nigerian troops rescue kidnapped Chibok girls
  • Nigerian military technically defeats Boko Haram
  • The Nigerian army rescue thousands of young boys kidnapped over the past three years by Boko Haram

Just a few questions for the men of our armed forces:

Why do you guys think that cow-recovery is significant?

Why should Nigerians care?

Does this recovery change or decrease the incessantly increasing price of staple commodities in the market at this point in time?

Will the parents of thousands of missing children in the northeast applaud you for swinging into action and pursuing terrorists to #BringBackTheCows when you didn’t deploy such swift response when their babies were snatched in the middle of the night?

Did you know it took your Ethiopian counterparts just a week to locate 100 children kidnapped by South Sudanese militants in April? How long did it take you to locate the kidnapped girls? And since you located them …

Do we keep hope alive that someday distressed parents will unite with their sons and daughters, or should we expect more cattle rescue?

Apparently, it seems former President Olusegun Obasanjo was right to have said that the rescue of the girls is a myth; since you are proudly recovering cows.

It’s bad enough that you and the government have treated Nigerians, and the world, to a variation of stories concerning the whereabouts of the kidnapped girls (and boys rarely ever mentioned) and whether or not they are still alive, please don’t provoke us with your ridiculous tales of rescuing or recovering 500 cows.
