Globacom, Nigeria’s largest indigenous telecom company based on market share, led the gainers table in the porting figures for March and April 2014, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Glo recorded a total of 11,167 subscribers who ported from other mobile network operators to the network within the two months under review.

The report of the Port-Out Activities of Mobile Network Operators pointed out that 3,212 subscribers ported into Globacom from other networks in March while 7,955 subscribers moved to the local telco’s network in April.

Airtel followed behind with a total gain of 8,565 for the months. In March, the company welcomed 5,749 porting subscribers and 2,816 porting subscribers in April. Etisalat came third with 6, 296 new subscribers in the two months, 3,016 subscribers in March and 3,280 new subscribers in April.

Nigeria’s largest operators, MTN, came fourth with 1,780 new customers in March and 552 in April, making it a total of 2,332 subscribers who changed to the network in the two months.

In March, 13,383 telecom users engaged in porting-out from their previous networks and 14,183 telecom users engaged in porting-out activities across the networks in April.

The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was flagged off on April 22, 2013 by the NCC, with the aim of deepening competition in the industry.
