Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama today April 4, 2013 sworn in Dr Kofi Wampah as the new substantive Governor of the country’s central bank.

Dr Wampah, who was acting as governor, officially takes over from his predecessor and now Ghana’s Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.

Dr. Wampah was appointed First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in May 2009.

He has worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a Special Appointee in the late 1990s

Dr. Wampah obtained a B.A. (Hons) Economics and Statistics degree in 1977 from the University of Ghana and studied for a Masters’ degree (1983) and a Ph.D (1986) in Economics with specializations in econometrics and public finance from McGill University, Canada.
