On Thursday, 12th January 2017, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted by Boko Haram terrorists around Golgore River in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an army captain and a lieutenant.

“Eight officers and 144 soldiers attached to the Nigerian Army, 27 Brigade Task Force, were deployed in the area to clear the Boko Haram remnants until the explosion occurred,” a source said.

According to a correspondent, the army captain and lieutenant were said to be part of the troops deployed in the Talala area for a counter-attack on the insurgents when the explosion occurred. However, two suspected members of Boko Haram have been arrested in Minna by the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps that same Thursday.
