Africa Oil Corp., a Canadian oil and gas  company, has highlighted the increase, by a third, in the estimated amount of potential oil in its Kenyan since Kenya announced the discovery of oil in March.

According to Africa Oil, about 43 metres of potential oil was found in the company’s Ngamia-1 well located in northern Kenya, a well is currently operated by its partner British exploration firm Tullow.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the country manager of Tullow, Martin Mboho said: “The net oil pay logged in Ngamia-1 is more than double that of any of Tullow’s east African exploration wells drilled to date.”

The oil well was drilled to a depth of 2,340 metres and with the new discovery, it will be suspended for future flow testing.

At the time of filing this report, the commercial viability of the discovery has not been ascertained.

Africa Oil Corp. is an oil and gas company with assets in Kenya, Ethiopia and Mali as well as Puntland (Somalia) through its 45% equity interest in Horn Petroleum Corporation.
