Professor Temile Johnson a social analyst and commentator, said that the best way for Nigeria to move forward, was for the Nigerian federal government, to neglect the oil sector in favor of technology development and advancement. He said that this move would likely become a big economic driver for the country in the coming years if properly worked out.
He said that the Nigerian economy was in dire straits with the falling oil prices causing a shrinkage of the economy. He said that the Nigeria should not bank on the expectation that the oil prices will go up. He added that Agriculture could not be leaned on as it takes about four years for results to show while mining was no good either leaving technology as the next best option.
Professor Johnson said that Technology is good as its not based on power or infrastructure because its core resource is ideas and innovative minds and Nigeria had over fifty million of that resourse in the form of the people. The economist also stated that the recent World Economic Forum meeting gives real credence to his suggestions that technology is likely to be a big player in the country’s economy in the coming years.
