Bloomberg Markets recently released its 50 most influential list for 2015. Those featured on the list include people operating different businesses across the world. Pope Francis, Warren Buffet and Barak Obama are a few influencers on this year’s list.

However, three Africans were featured on the list, they were Aliko Dangote, Tidjane Thiam and Mo Ibrahim. According to Bloomberg markets, the influencers were selected due to their numerous contributions to world economies, finance and futuristic investments.

Here is an update on each of the African influencers featured on Bloomberg’s influencer list:

Tidjane Thiam (Number 23)

Placed at 23 on the list, 53 year old Tidjane Thiam is a proven asset to the finance sector. Although he holds a dual citizenship (Ivorian and French), he was born in Cote d’ivoire. In June 2015, Thiam became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Credit Suisse, an investment and asset management company. With financial experience spanning over two decades, Thiam has received several accolades for his work in the sector. In 1998, he was named as one of the annual 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow and in 1999, he was named a member of the Dream Cabinet, that same year, he was selected as one of 20 members of the External Advisory Council of the World Bank Institute.

Aliko Dangote (Number 41)

41 on the list, Nigerian business guru, 58 year old Aliko Dangote keeps rising. Bloomberg refers to him as being distinguished like royalty. Aside provision of employment, Dangote has been working towards improving the African economy by promoting the continent in a positive light. Armed with an arsenal of business around Africa, Dangote has recently revealed plans to extend his franchise to Asia, a venture he has been applauded for. During the commissioning of a cement plant at Mgao, Tanzania, Dangote expressed his intention to make Africa an export continent as opposed to being import dependent.

Mo Ibrahim (Number 48)

Placed at 48 on the list, the founder of the Mo Ibrahim foundation, 68 year old Mo Ibrahim is a Sudanese entrepreneur. He has experiences in Communications, Engineering and African Policy evaluation. In 2006, Ibrahim founded the Mo Ibrahim Foundation which evaluates governance on the continent. In 2007, he created the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, of which past Namibian president Hifikepunye Pohamba is a beneficiary. The prize awards a $5 million initial payment and a $200,000 annual payment for life to African heads of state who deliver economic infrastructure to their constituents and also transfer power to their successors.
