What happens when a young child is torn from the loving affection of his parents and forced to join a brutal savage army? The highly acclaimed novel, Beasts of No Nation, by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala vividly captures the harrowing experience of a young child soldier forced to become an adult by the brutality of war.
The feature film adaptation of this novel, which has been under production is finally out of the wraps, and is set to début on Friday, October 16, 2015, under the joint partnership of World’s leading Internet television network – Netflix, Bleecker Street and America’s largest theatre chain – Landmark Theatres. The trio announced a partnership on Friday, 30th July, that will put Netflix’s first original film, Beasts of No Nation, in 19 Landmark markets, and streamed worldwide on Netflix in all territories where the world’s leading Internet TV network is available.
The powerful new film is written and directed by Emmy Award winner Cary Fukunaga, director of True Detective and Sin Nombre. The movie casts Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, as the ruthless commandant of the guerilla army, newcomer Abraham Attah as young Agu, as well as Opeyemi Fagbohungbe, Richard Pepple, and Ama Abebrese.
Beasts of No Nation is produced by Amy Kaufman, Cary Fukunaga, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker and Dan Crown for Red Crown Productions, along with Elba. With executive producers Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King for Participant Media, Elizabeth Koch and Kristina Kendall for New Balloon, Donna Gigliotti for Levantine Films, then Bill Benenson, Laura Bickford and Todd Courtney.
The film which already has Oscar predictions will début alongside some of the most anticipated movies of the season at the Venice Film Festival 2015, and will also be screening at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
