A few days ago, Africa’s leading mobile phone maker, TECNO Mobile, unveiled its latest smartphone, Camon CX, at an event, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya. This phone, which is designed specifically for young, independent smartphone users, is set to shake up the African smartphone market. This latest model will definitely be the “Selfie Camera” for this market’s generation.

“We are very excited to unveil the Camon CX, as our latest smartphone. The phenomenon of the selfie has in recent years taken over smartphone usage, and photo quality is important to not just younger consumers but increasingly wider age demographics. We have made a conscious effort to adopt the latest technology to provide consumers with the highest quality mobile experience, something that is a top priority for TECNO Mobile,” said the General Manager of TECNO Mobile, Stephen Ha during the global launch of the Camon CX smartphone.

In 2006 when TECNO was launched, multinationals such as Nokia, Samsung, Apple and Blackberry, which had been in the African market for 20 years, were the major players in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market. These companies had major market shares in Africa and made it difficult and seemingly impossible for any other OEM company to penetrate the market. Surprisingly, after only one year of market research and product development, TECNO arrived Africa with a game-changing plan of providing highly competitive mobile phones to consumers on the continent – going on to become a force to reckon with in Africa.

“The launch of the Camon CX is the latest example of where TECNO Mobile provides quality products at affordable prices across many different markets. This device is particularly exciting for us as we tap into new technology, delivering consistent, superior image quality whilst still offering an easy-to-use device. We strive to maintain TECNO’s position as the most popular smartphone provider in the African market by utilising new technologies as we have done here,” said Beehong Hong, Transsion’s Chief Marketing Officer.

What makes the phone unique?

With a 5.5-inch Full High Definition (FHD) IPS Touch Display screen, Camon CX, which comes with the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system has a dual 16MP rear camera with dual flash and 16MP Front Camera with dual flash, so you don’t need to buy a selfie ring light. This fabulous Camon CX allows users to take amazing quality selfies in dark environments where previously, artificial lights would blur and distort images.

The Camon CX, which will be available in 41 countries, including Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America has other amazing features. These features are 1.5GHz octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage with support for memory card up to 128GB, 4G LTE (up to 150Mbps), Fingerprint Sensor (Rear) and 3200 mAh Battery with light speed charging.

Securing their position as the leading smartphone provider in African markets such as Nigeria, Tanzania, Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon, TECNO Mobile has adopted the latest visual technology in the Camon CX.

Since the Camon series was introduced in 2015, over 5 million units have been sold globally. The Camon series is helping consumers experience high-quality selfie technology at the touch of a button. TECNO, which is part of Transsion Holdings, has had over 25 percent of market share in Sub-Sahara African countries since 2014; sales in the African market reached 25 million devices in 2015, including 9 million smartphones. While the sale of smartphones manufactured by the company increased by 40 percent, it sold 60 million devices globally last year.
