Senegal’s President Macky Sall has promised to give $55,000 each to players of the country’s national football team should it emerge victorious at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sally, according to the South African Press Association (SAPA), also promised the Lions of Teranga undisclosed bonuses for any game won.

“We will do our best to get good results,” said captain of the team and goalkeeper, Bouna Coundoul, after receiving a Senegalese flag from Sall at a ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday.

The team will travel to Morocco, the country that dropped its hosting rights due to Ebola fears, for the final training camp ahead of the tournament, which commences on January 17.

Senegal has never won the AFCON title, despite being one of the only three African nations to have made the World Cup quarterfinals.
