On Tuesday, the Nigerian Federal Government commended a US-based Nigerian surgeon, Dr Oluyinka Olutoye, for successfully removing a tumour from an unborn baby. According to the statement issued by a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja, the Nigerian Government and people were proud of Olutoye.

According to Dabiri-Erewa, the operation was carried out on a 23-week-old foetus in the US by Olutoye and his partner, Dr Darrell Cass of the Texas Children’s Hospital.

“The baby, Lynlee Hope, who suffered from a tumour known as Sacrococcygeal Teratoma, was removed from her mother’s womb, operated on, and returned to the womb. The baby got healed and continued to grow until she was finally delivered at 36 weeks.’’

President Buhari had received the news of Dr Olutoye’s feat with excitement and says he is looking forward to meeting Dr Olutoye.
