South African hospital group, Mediclinic International, on Wednesday said its Swiss unit, Hirslanden, had made a complete acquisition of the Geneva-based, Clinique La Colline (La Colline), a surgical private hospital, for $146 million.

The firm said the deal would substantially make stronger Hirslanden’s presence in Western Switzerland.

It will do this by providing the company with a footmark in Geneva and the move is also in keeping with Hirslanden’s strategy of boosting its presence in appealing markets with robust fundamentals.

La Colline is also a multi-disciplinary private hospital with 95 beds and six operating theatres furnished for general, endoscopic and navigation-assisted surgery.

The JSE-listed has a strong market share in orthopaedic treatments performed in Geneva. Other treatments offered at La Colline include internal medicine, visceral surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, plastic surgery, and gynaecology.

Stellenbosch-based Mediclinic has in recent years seen pleasing contributions from all its operating platforms. It has also experienced an increase in bed-days sold, average income and bed days. This also includes a surge in the number of patients admitted to its institutions.

Refinancing of its capital structure and the acquisition of minorities in Mediclinic Middle East has also stood the company in good stead. The company continues to grow operations.
