The chairman of Dubai’s Al Wasl football club Marwan bin Bayat has revealed that the Club has made a bid for Ivorian football star Didier Drogba.

According to comments published by Associated Press, Marwan bin Bayat, however, said he still expects the former Chelsea star and Ivory Coast international to sign with a Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua despite the bid.

The chairman not say how much Al Wasl has offered Drogba, only that it was less than what has been offered from the Chinese club.

Drogba has been linked to Shanghai Shenhua, which also has hired former Argentina coach Sergio Batista and another former Chelsea player in Nicolas Anelka earlier this year.

African football icon, Didier Drogba, who is arguably at the peak or twilight of his career is yet to confirm what club he would be playing for. He has however made it clear that he would be leaving Chelsea FC, after he helped the London club lift the much coveted UEFA Champions League trophy last month.

Bin Bayat said the club, which is coached by Argentine legend Diego Maradona, was “definitely serious” about Drogba.

Al Wasl is the footballing arm of multi-sports club Al Wasl Sports Club. The club was voted Club of the 20th Century in the UAE due to its impressive performance in the Continental Tournaments last century.
