One of the daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari who returned from the United Kingdom last month has successfully completed the two-weeks self-isolation directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Upon completion of the quarantine protocol, she was reunited with the first family on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

In a statement released by Aliyu Abdullahi the spokesperson for Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari, He explained that the isolation was done in line with NCDC protocols to ascertain the health status of returning travelers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although her identity was confidential, Abdullahi said that the president’s daughter had gone into isolation despite her “privileged” status.

While describing the state of the undisclosed daughter, Abdullahi said that she is “normal, very healthy, and well.” The spokesman also stated that she was personally received by her mother, the first lady at home.

Elated by her daughter’s return, Aisha Buhari in a tweet acknowledged that it is a thing of joy and gratitude to God who reunited her daughter with the family after the 14-days isolation. Aisha Buhari extended her wishes to those infected speedy recoveries and prayed for the pandemic to end altogether.

In addition, the Governor of Lagos State Sanwo-Olu who tested negative to coronavirus on Thursday, April 2 announced that the state government has also discharged 11 coronavirus patients from the Infectious disease center in Yaba.

Sanwo-Olu also affirmed via twitter that the patients (9 males and 2 females) were fully recovered and had tested negative to COVID-19 in two rounds of tests. Thus, they were discharged to return home and cohabit with their families.

The NCDC, however, reported that as at 11:00 am on April 3, 2020, there were 190 confirmed cases, out of which 20 had been discharged, and only 2 deaths. With the new tally, it showed that almost all the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria have recorded cases of the coronavirus. The authorities have therefore resolved to increase their testing capacity and claimed to have the capacity to test 1,500 people a day.

Similarly, State governors across the country have established isolation centers to prevent further spread of the pandemic. The latest being Hope Uzodinma Governor of Imo State, revealed the launch of a testing center, six isolation centers for infectious diseases like (COVID-19), and 28 state of the art ambulances for each Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Friday 3rd of April.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire asserted that the country was seeing “early signs of community transmission,” which is expected to translate into an increase in the virus spread. Ehanire however guaranteed that the authorities had intensified efforts to find those who had been in contact with COVID-19 patients in the country so as to control the spread of the virus.
