Chinese investor is to establish a plastic factory in Amhara region of Ethiopia. The investment will have a capital out lay of 120 million birr according to the Industry and Urban Development Department of the zone.

According to Shaoxing Lee, the Chinese investor, the factory is expected to begin production in two years, creating 5000 jobs.

The factory will have the potential to produce 150,000 tons of plastic bags, including for manufactured goods and other products annually to supply the domestic and export markets he explained. It will also offer social service facilities for local residents after the factory is operational said Lee.

Head of the Urban Development Department of the zone, Mt Kinfe Seifu signed the agreement for the investment with Mr. Lee. During the occasion, Mr Seifu said that the zone is working towards attracting domestic and international investors to the area by developing essential infrastructure

The Industry and Urban Development Department of the zone has designated land plots for an estimated 400 investment projects in the area, he added.

The plastic factory will certainly boost economic and employment opportunities in the region, thereby alleviating poverty.
