Real estate investment company, Qatari Diar on Sunday announced its readiness to commence work on the company’s first luxury resort project in Tunisia – the Tozeur Desert Resort.

In a recently released statement, Qatari Diar said the Tozeur Desert Resort is a reflection of the company’s “strategic commitment to supporting development and growth in Tunisia and the wider North African region”.

In line with this, Qatari Diar is to send a high-level delegation to the $80 million resort’s ground-breaking ceremony in Tozeur, south-western Tunisia.

Part of the project include 60 luxury hotel suites, high-end health and spa components, retail outlets and restaurants, conference and business facilities, an amphitheatre and an “Arabian Night” tent, in addition to desert sports and tennis courts.

Tozeur resort is expected to contribute immensely to the tourism sector in Tunisia by boosting Tozeur’s reputation as a local and international tourist destination. According to the company’s website, the resort is scheduled to open in 2015.

According to available history, Tozeur, one of Tunisia’s 24 governorates was once dubbed City of Dreams by the Romans. It is a destination for artists, film directors, politicians and journalists.

Elsewhere, Qatari Diar has also signed a contract that is worth more than $543.8 million for projects in Egypt with Consolidated Contractors Company. It had allotted $464.3 million to the company’s Nile Corniche project in Cairo and $79.5 million to its coastal resort project in Sharm El Sheikh.
