Tunis Air, the national carrier of Tunisia has announced a new partnership deal with French top-flight club side, Stade de Reims. The airline has revealed that the deal has been agreed and signed with the French club although details on finances and length of the contract were not disclosed but speculation reveals that the deal will run until the end of the season.

The partnership will see the logo of Tunis Air appear on the shorts of players of Stade de Reims during official matches.  In addition, Tunis Air’s branding and insignia will be featured on LED display boards at the French club’s Stade Auguste Delaune which has a capacity of 21,584.

Speaking about the deal, Slaheddine Blidi, chief executive of Tunis Air, said the company was proud of its association with Stade de Reims. “It is with great pride that we partner with Stade de Reims. As Tunis Air grows, Stade de Reims is a great partner for our development,” he said.

The partnership is in line with the recent trend which has seen African corporate players seek brand association with foreign clubs. Nigerian telecommunications giants Globacom have an existing partnership with Manchester United while Sterling Bank, a player in Nigeria’s finance sector, has a partnership with Arsenal. Similarly, Ooredoo, an Algerian communications operations company, have confirmed a partnership with Spanish giants, Real Madrid. Currently, Stade de Reims have only two African players (Odaïr Fortes of Cape Verde and Aïssa Mandi of Tunisia) on the books but French football is generally popular in the North African country.

Formed in 1948, Tunis Air operates international flights to several destinations including to Europe and the Middle East. Also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization, Tunis Air recorded revenues of 1.077 billion dinars ($656 million) in 2014, an increase of 0.81 percent on its 2013 figures when it recorded revenues of 1.068 billion dinars ($552 million) in the calendar year.
