World football governing body, FIFA have announced an $850,000 grant to the Togo Football Federation.

The grant is to be dedicated to development projects in Togolese football for 2013 and 2014. The modalities of the allocation were discussed as a joint delegation of FIFA and CAF concluded a week-long visit to Togo last week.

FIFA’s Head of Development Programs, Cyril Loisel disclosed that a percentage of the grant will be dedicated to the organization of the domestic Division 1 and 2 leagues while preliminary talks of setting up a women’s league have also been held.

The general focus of FIFA and Togolese football is to modernize the game and promote strategies that will ensure development in infrastructure in the country.

The funds come at a strategic time in Togolese football as domestic leagues were suspended for more than a year following an internal crisis at the governing body, however, leagues have since resumed and Togolese clubs have begun participation in local and continental competitions.
