According to reports making the rounds on social media this afternoon, an explosion rocked Umuwaya road junction in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state, Nigeria, yesterday. Although the cause of the explosion is unknown, there is some speculation that the explosion was caused by drums of petrol at the location. There were initial reports that the explosion might have been related to Boko Haram attacks or the continuing Biafra protests in the city but bloggers and witnesses are consistently reporting that the explosion is the result of an accident.
