On Wednesday, 17th August 2016, the Federal Government of Nigeria decided to discharge N9.8billion for polio vaccines and other related activities, as it released its programme for immunising over 56million children by November 2016.

According to the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, the virus has a high risk of spreading further due to population movement within and around the states. Hence, he said the money will be used to execute the polio response plan developed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and its partners.

“Funding has actually never been an issue. The issue here has to do with access to this population,” the minister said, while reiterating that there were enough funds for the polio programme.

The programme includes five rounds of polio campaign, three of which will be focused on 16 northern states and two to be conducted nationwide.
