Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona looks set for a move to one of the big money European leagues.

The defender, who currently plies his trade for Sunshine Stars of Akure, is subject of massive interest from European clubs following a string of sterling performances in Nigeria’s title winning African Cup of Nations run. High on the list of his suitors is Arsenal FC who is reportedly on the verge of offering a trial.

However, Mike Idoko, Executive Director of Ondo State Football Agency, controlling organ of Sunshine Stars, has ruled out the possibility of a trial at Arsenal.

Idoko insists that while Arsenal are yet to make a formal offer, the player will not embark on a trial as his status in the game is deserving of an outright contract.

For Oboabona, a transfer to England will be straightforward as he fulfils the English FA’s requirements for the grant of a work permit having played in more than 75 percent of the Super Eagles’ games in the last one year.

Should the move to England materialise  Oboabona could potentially earn hundreds of thousands of pounds immediately after signing his contract as players in England earn up to 15 percent of fees received when they move to higher-profile leagues for big fees.

British-based players also earn lump sums from transfers through their signing on fees. For instance, if a player signs a four year contract with a signing on fee worth £250,000 ($378, 000) a year, he will receive the £1 million ($1.5 million) in full immediately and also any other additional signing on payments from his new club.
