The Nigerian foreign affairs ministry of Nigeria has advised the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to stop all acts or intentions that could threaten world peace. This after North Korea fired a ballistic missile last Sunday, an act that has since sparked outrage from various parts of the globe as well as threats from some countries. Nigeria urged the Korean government to act in accordance with the UN policies in order to foster world peace instead of threaten its existence.
In its plea The Nigerian government said that the Korean authorities had to respect the United Nations Security Council Resolution of 1718. The foreign affairs ministry reiterated the fact that Nigeria was in full support of the commitment of the United Nations Security Council in working towards a diplomatic and political solution that will lead to the full de-militarisation of the Korean Peninsula. They further stated that while the government reaffirms their support for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, they encourage DPRK to return to the 6-party talks.The Korean government would have to end activities connected to the ballistic missile programme with immediate effect.
