Boko Haram the Nigerian Islamist terrorist group has been wrecking havok in West Africa killing thousand and leaving millions homeless. The terrorist group is however slowly losing the control and the power it held just about a year ago and this is due to the unlikely tactics the Nigerian government through the army have engaged in.These are:
1.Denying terrorists territory
The Nigerian military is working tirelessly to push the group out of towns and villages it once controlled. Counterterrorism experts say that the loss in territory suffered by Boko Haram is a key factor in weakening the group. Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, a terrorism expert said that at this point they can still carry out devastating attacks but without secure territory to operate from, they are increasingly vulnerable to these mounting setbacks. Holding territory is key to the longevity and expansion of any extremist groups as the territory  provides a base at which to train fighters, build bombs, and from which to launch attacks. Denying violent extremist groups a secure base of operation weakens them greatly.
