The ABSA Premiership in South Africa, easily the most organised football league on the continent, has grown steadily over the years attracting business interests that has seen mulitple investments and sponsorship in the South African football.

Today, the Soweto derby- a game between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates– will take center stage not just in South Africa but also across the world as a global audience as SuperSport, host broadcasters of the Soweto Derby, have announced that deals have been brokered that will see the game available to 24 millions households across the Caribbeans,  Latin America, Australia and New Zealand as well as another 83 million household in America courtesy ESPN and Fox Sports channels.

In the Middle East and similar regions, Al Jazeera will broadcast the game while ESPN TV will broadcast the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

The massive interest in the Soweto Derby and the South African league is arguably the result of strategic organization and marketing of the league by the PSL CEO Cambridge Mokanyane. As a result, SuperSport confirmed that the Soweto Derby in December was the biggest broadcast it had undertaken since inception asides the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

In the footballing side of things, Kaizer Chiefs are five points clear of fierce rivals Orlando Pirates as the race to win the South African title and the richest African national football league prize of $1.1 million continues.
