Early this morning, President Buhari returned to Nigeria, after being away for 50 days, since the 21st of January, 2017. His return has been met with mixed reactions and many took to social media to share their thoughts.

The Nigerian President account on Twitter uploaded a video of Femi Adesina, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, speaking on the return of the president:

We highlight of some of the best social media reactions to the president’s return below:

A Twitter user said President Buhari was “on an official visit to Nigeria.”

Someone decided to point out how many people really wanted him back:

And others, well, they did this:

This person was very unhappy at the possibility of his return:

Others were upset at the return to ‘hard life.’

And others just asked, “Why?”

While his return was not necessarily celebrated by the majority of people on social media, others refused to follow the trend, putting out words describing happiness and joy at the president’s return:

Reactions were not confined to Twitter, Instagram and Facebook had their fair share of course:

The Nigerian president may have returned but already, there are conflicting reports concerning his health and whether he is fit to return. In an interview today, he jokingly mentioned that he deliberately scheduled his return for a Friday, so that the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, can continue his duties. His media adviser, Femi Adesina, has said that he will hand in a formal letter to the Senate on Monday, which will allow him to return to his duties, legally.
