Last Wednesday, former Chairman, Appropriations Committee, Mr Abdulmumin  Jibrin was issued a 180 legislative days suspension by the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges for investigations. The reason for the suspension was cited as a breach of the privilege of the House. Mr Jibrin, however, has claimed that his suspension was due to him voicing out the fraudulent activities in the House of Representatives. The Honourable, on Independence Day, let out his anger on Twitter by making some huge revelations about the House of Representatives.

6-I have taken it as a responsibility to prove to the public that the House is a den of monumental budget fraud and systemic corruption

— Abdulmumin Jibrin (@AbdulAbmJ) September 29, 2016

Nigerians were enraged with the revelations made by Jibrin concerning the allowances and prepared a meet up to answer boggling questions on the minds of the people. The event tagged #SMmeetsJibrin had huge effects on the Nigerian Twitter community and, in fact, the subject trended for hours.

This is why it is a do or die affair for many of them. The “corporate robbery” involved #SMmeetsJibrin https://t.co/FKP6RR6Bi6

The reaction of Nigerians reveal that they are fast becoming more vocal and responsive to the need for the leaders to be more accountable. If the House of Representatives cannot show that their accountability to the populace who voted them in, then their leadership is questionable. In July, it was reported that the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff,  began the construction of N2.7 billion Osogbo-Ilobu road despite the road remaining as bad as ever.

The cry for more transparency and openness from the government is getting louder. Can the House of Representatives prove that Mr Jibrin’s allegations aren’t true by refuting his claims with credible evidence?
