The inauguration of Nigeria’s new Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, the 11th of November, led to a variety of reactions from Nigerians, the good, bad, and funny. First came the congratulatory messages on social media, then came some criticisms questioning the competence of some ministers in relation to their portfolios, then the floodgates opened and the memes poured out.

It is a known fact that Nigerians have high expectations for the new Ministers and so they would be criticised daily, but the people took things up a notch when they started recommending books for the Ministers to read with the #ReadingListNG tag on social media. It was almost as if they said, “Yes we’ll criticise you. But first, here’s some assistance.”

Started by popular Nigerian journalist, Tolu Ogunlesi, #ReadingListNG was a Twitter Nigeria trend throughout Thursday, November 12th.
