In a saturated and competitive space such as the Nigerian mobile market with product offerings that comprise several expensive flagship phones, mid-range mobile devices, as well as budgetary smartphones, establishing a new brand at this time can be a rough ride.

For OPPO, however, the vision is to offer products that “solve a need in the customer’s life” and ensure that “Nigerians have technology in the palm of their hands that they can appreciate and are willing to pay the price for,” Marketing Manager of OPPO Mobile Nigeria, Nengi Akinola said at the launch of two new devices – OPPO A5s and A1k – in Lagos yesterday.

The latest mid-range smartphone, OPPO A5s, boasts a stylish design and long-lasting battery life. It features dual rear cameras, a fingerprint scanner as well as a robust 4230mAh battery that supports up to 13.5 hours of video playback. The device also leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm optimization to reduce power consumption and delivers exceptional long-lasting battery life.

OPPO A5s offers new features such as Smart Bar, Smart Scan, Music on Display, Video Editing, and more. In particular, Smart Scan is a standout function. The feature scans business cards, easily transforming them into an electronic version. It also supports scan and image translation, providing invaluable assistance when traveling abroad.  Moreover, Smart Scan can convert images into editable text, allowing users to seamlessly work between formats.

Other features of the mobile device include a 3GB RAM storage which enables several applications to run seamlessly at the same time; an 8MP front camera offering more natural and personalized beautification options while delivering the stunning selfies in a flash; 13MP+2MP dual rear cameras, which enable excellent background blur to help users stand out in their portraits; as well as a rear fingerprint scanner, allowing users to unlock their devices quickly and securely in a mere 0.08 seconds.

As explained by the PR Manager of OPPO Mobile Nigeria, Joseph Adeola, the introduction of the new devices was based on customer feedback, most of who demanded quality smartphones with advanced technological features at affordable prices. “Apart from the fact that we give you quality devices, we also try to make you experience the same quality that is obtainable in anywhere in the global market here in Nigeria,” Nengi told Ventures Africa.

Meanwhile, the OPPO A1k is a new budget smartphone with exceptionally long battery life and intuitive smart technology. Powered by a 4000mAh large-capacity battery, the device supports up to 17 hours of daily usage also with an AI algorithm optimization that reduces power consumption. Besides, A1k features 32GB ROM storage space, making for a more satisfying daily usage experience. As well as providing a smoother user experience, the larger storage space enables you to save more photos and personal data.

With a sublime 6.1-inch LCD screen, users can enjoy an unparalleled, immersive experience from gaming to watching videos to just plain web browsing. Above that, A1k employs Corning Gorilla Glass, so the screen is stronger to better resist unexpected drops and scratches. And young shutterbugs can now enjoy the rear camera, which uses a 5P lens and multi-frame anti-vibration technology to precisely control the light path, creating a sharper image that offers more stable and smooth video shooting.

Moreover, A1k comes with an intuitive operating system and has multiple ‘smart’ functions, including OPPO Cloud Service, Smart Assistant, and Gesture Navigation, allowing users to experience a smarter lifestyle. Especially worth mentioning is the intelligent Smart Assistant function. It provides users with a one-stop service portal, which directly presents the most important information in the form of a card on the Home screen.

An aesthetically appealing feature common in both new smartphones is the year’s most popular ‘Waterdrop Screen’ which draws its inspiration from a water droplet on the verge of falling. OPPO A5s and A1k have earpiece, camera, and light sensors all integrated into the waterdrop at the top of their screens. This makes possible the fashionable screen-to-body ratio and creates a screen that is both beautiful and practical.

The waterfall screen technology according to the President of OPPO Middle East and Africa, Andy Shi, is a “unique fusion of technology and creativity by OPPO.” And through this innovative tech, the company is aiming to deliver the “ultimate immersive visual experience and innovative aesthetic” to its users.

For pricing and availability, OPPO A5s costs N69,900 and it comes in Green, Gold, Black and Blue colors. While OPPO A1k is priced at N44,900 and it comes in Black and Red colors. Both devices are now available for sale at accredited dealerships nationwide.

OPPO Mobile Telecommunications is a Chinese smartphone brand ranked No 4 in the world according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The company provides cutting edge smartphones to over 200 million people all over the world, with presence in more than 40 countries, six research centers globally, an international design center in London and more than 40,000 employees.
