Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on English Premier League club Arsenal in August as part of the London club’s pre-season summer trip to the country.

The game is billed to take place on the 5th of August at the Abuja National Stadium.

Making the annoucement, Dadid Omigie of DanJan Sports—promoters of the game— expressed delight at having the match as well as promised that both sides will have full squads on parade.

“We are delighted to annnouce that Arsenal Football Club will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Abuja.”

The NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) have agreed that the country will present a strong side as coach Stephen Keshi continues his development process.”

Omigie continued: “The Arsenal manager (Arsene Wenger) will also use this game to showcase his full squad for the 2012/2013 football season.”

Meanwhile, the London club on their official website stated that they are returning to Africa for the first time since 1993 “as a result of the fantastic support which exists for the team, not only in Nigeria, but across the entire continent.”

According to DanJan Sports, tickets for the match will go on sale from July 4th.

Arsenal had to cancel their traditional pre-season tournament– The Emirates Cup– due to the 2012 London Olympics. So, the visit to Nigeria as well as tours to both China and Malaysia will serve as the club’s pre-season.

In a related development, the London Club’s association with the West African country is already yielding dividends as it plans long term links with Nigeria. Aside the summer tour, Arsenal are partnering with Nigerian Premier League club, Niger Tornadoes to build an academy in the Niger State, Northern Nigeria.

Also, the club has signed a sponsorship deal with a malt drink making them the official drink of the Gunners in Nigeria.
