United Bank for Africa (UBA) has launched its latest online banking solution called U-Social. This has been created to aid customers in carrying out banking transactions on social media through the use of their Facebook account.

Designed to promote financial inclusion, customers will be able to access available services at any time, regardless of their location. U-Social, according to a statement from the bank, comes as an online-based application on Facebook. It is easy to download and immediately syncs with the user’s Facebook account.

All UBA customers who are on Facebook can access the easy-to-use platform via mobile or desktop devices with four options — open account, enrolment, locate services and settings.

“Intending users with an existing UBA account, can select enrolment and follow simple steps to start using U-Social. Facebook users without an existing UBA account can however, select the open account icon to begin the process of using U-Social. U-Social enables users to send money to other banks right from their Facebook page. It is as simple as a ‘click’ and the money is sent,” the statement explained.

Users have the option of paying for all cable TV bills on their Facebook page even while participating in an on-going conversation thread. Airtime can be purchased, new transactions initiated, and cheques can also be confirmed or cancelled via the new service.

“The beauty of U-social is that it has simplified banking and made it part of the social media space. With UBA’s U-Social, Facebook is not just where people connect with friends and family, it is also the place anyone can do his or her banking with ease,” The Divisional Head, e-Banking, United Bank for Africa, Yinka Adedeji said. He also noted that this banking platform has given rise to a new dimension of the bank’s social media banking space.
