AP reports that a Nigerian court-martial has handed a soldier a three-year jail sentence for mutilating a 10-year-old boy. The soldier meted out a punishment that left the boy without the use of his hands and one hand was amputated.

The court ruling also stripped the soldier, Staff Sergeant Umar Sule, of his rank. Usman Muhammed, the boy’s father, says he is satisfied with the court’s ruling.
