According to the latest data published by the United Nations Peacekeeping, Nigerian is the world’s 14th largest troops contributing nation to the United Nation peacekeeping operations. Following 2016, the data shows that Nigeria contributed a total of 2,170 peacekeeping personnel.

The peacekeeping personnel was backed up to work with the United Nation by member countries. UN peacekeeping helps countries torn by conflict to create conditions for lasting peace and this has proven to be one of the most effective tools available to the UN to assist host.

“UN Peacekeepers provide security and the political and peacebuilding support to help countries make the difficult, early transition from conflict to peace,” said the report.

The data shows that the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions are Ethiopia with 8,326, India with 7,471 personnel, and Pakistan which contributed 7,161.
