Billionaire telecommunications tycoon Mike Adenuga, topped the list of Nigerians to be decorated in the country’s 2012 National Award list released on Sunday.

The award which has different categories of honours, decorated the Ogun state born businessman as Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

149 distinguished Nigerians including four governors, past political office holders, industry leaders, among others, also bagged the awards.

The awardees also included business magnate and owner of IBETO Group of companies Mr Cletus Ibeto, and Chairman of Heirs Holdings Limited, one of Africa’s most influential leaders, Tony Elumelu. Both will be honoured as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Nigreria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) said in a statement that the formal ceremony will hold on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Mike Adenuga is the owner of Globacom, a Nigerian mobile telecom giant with customer base of over 25 million. He also owns Conoil and the former Equitorial Trust Bank. His wealth is estimated at $4 billion.
