Emed Rescue 24, Namibia’s first locally owned emergency medical evacuation company recently launched its new Emed Rescue 24 mobile application to provide the public with fast access to medical assistance in the event of an emergency.

The app, “E-med rescue panic button” provides an alternative to make calls for an ambulance or seek medical intervention when needed during emergencies. The app works in a way that when it is launched on any smartphone, a red panic button appears on the screen which when touched, alerts Emed Rescue 24 team. The app accesses location of distress calls through the device’s location which would be switched on automatically when the application is launched.

Alternatively, if device location is switched off and Emed Rescue 24 team needs to be alerted of an emergency through the app, the app automatically sends an SMS to the Emed team and places a phone call to the Emed team a minute after the SMS. The launch of the E-med rescue panic button would no doubt be of help during emergencies.

In Namibia, private companies complement government effort in the medical sector by providing paramedic services to patients. However, Emed rescue 24 has upgraded the trend by leveraging on technology to ensure Namibians can call for help during emergencies.

During the app launch, Bertus Struwig, the CEO of Prosperity Group, said that the app had been in the making for more than two years and after a lot of research and testing is now ready for the local market. “We are extremely proud of this great innovation and are happy to share it with all. Even if you only have a one-bar connectivity, our Call Centre will get your panic and assist you with the services you require, be it for a road accident, heart attack or a stroke,” Bertus said.

Juliet Kavetuna, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, congratulated Emed Rescue 24 and the Prosperity Group during the event on the launch of the mobile panic app. She also affirmed that her ministry and government were committed and would do everything in their power to ensure that the app is a success and will get as many people as possible to use it.

Emed Rescue 24 is a private company in Namibia that provides medical emergency evacuation and paramedical treatment in life and death situations. They offer these services not only on land with ambulances but also with air ambulances.
