A few minutes ago, AP officially called Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, as the winner of the 2016 US presidential elections. He will now be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America after edging out Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate by a significant margin.

Trump’s victory will bring an end to eight years of Democratic rule in the White House. AP’s Julie Pace and Robert Furlow write that Trump’s win threatens to “undo major achievements of President Barack Obama. He’s pledged to act quickly to repeal Obama’s landmark health care law, revoke the nuclear agreement with Iran and rewrite important trade deals with other countries, particularly Mexico and Canada.”

Trump’s victory is a defiance of expectations as many expected Hillary Clinton to win by a relatively small margin.
